Five Reasons To Go To the Womens March

There are many reasons not to go the women's march. It will be cold. There will be many people. There might be some scuffles with police. It is time consuming and will take up your Saturday along with travel time. But here are five reasons to go.

First it is historical. The women's movement began in the nineteenth century and has been a long struggle for women's rights and the vote. Most people don't know that African Americans had the vote fifty years before women did. Many do not know that women were jailed, beaten, put in insane asylums, underwent hunger strikes and risked life and limb to get the vote in 1921. Many do not know that Hillary Clinton is in a long line of women who pushed the bar just a little bit closer to breaking the glass ceiling

Two. Clearly women took a shot to the stomach with the election of Donald Trump. It doesn't matter if you are a democrat or a republican no one can feel good about a man elected to president who bragged about groping women. The number of women who have stepped forward and said they were victims of the President Elects advances is enough to let women all over the world know that this man is not going to help their cause.

Three. There are few times when you get the opportunity to participate in a nationwide demonstration that is integral to our democracy. There will be people all over the country participating and this in itself makes it something a of phenomenon.

Four. Bad things happen when good people do nothing. The sidelines wont work this time. This is not a moment in time to do nothing. We have seen what has happened in the last few weeks and if people do no make their voice heard then there will be nothing between us and disaster

Five. You will feel good about yourself. There is nothing worse than the feeling that you can not control your own destiny. This election shocked people and many were like a duck hit on the head. This is a statement that control lies with action

So there you have it. Five reasons to go. It might even be a really good time.
