Sad Day For Baseball and A Sadder Day for A-Rod

If you have a lot of money then you can get your way in America. Most of the time. But A-Rod might have hit the proverbial wall as he tries to overturn the ruling by the arbitrator  to lift his season suspension. His lawyers marched in but the problem is the judges aren't buying anymore. A-Rod was busted and now everyone knows he used the drugs and now it is really just about watching him try and get all the money that is on his contract. He will probably never play again.

And yeah it is another sad day for baseball. The standard comeback to the pro A Rod forces is "everyone does it. He just caught." Ok. Lets take that it's logical conclusion. Someone robs a bank and gets caught. Everyone does it we just got caught. Ok. Some people may do it and not get caught so does that mean the people who get caught should be let off? How about this one...how great would A-Rod have been without the drugs?

We will never know. He is a man with an immense amount of money and money is power and so the drama will spin out but A-Rod is permanently damaged. Baseball has been damaged but not as much as the man. Baseball will continue and the A-Rod era will be over and people will talk about him and then they wont talk about him at all.

That will be his ultimate punishment.

A-Rods Worst Night in Chicago

Well we do live in a class society. If you are at the top then the rules do not apply to you . Take Alex Rodriguez who thumbed his nose at Major League Baseball and played in Cellular Field on Monday night even though technically he was a suspended. And  he is innocent until proven guilty. Ok. But it would seem he sees himself above the rules that the rest of the players have to follow....everyone else accepted their suspensions (13 other players)

And A--Rod was booed. That had to be a new experience for a guy who is used to people telling him how great he is 24-7. It had to be a shock. I mean what he must have thought standing there with a stadium booing him...not his play...but him. They were booing because people disapprove of someone who does not play by the rules. They disapprove of the fixed game. And the fix was in. He would play regardless what baseball said and Americans may admire talent but they hate it when someone cheats. The fact is he gets his sixty million by playing last night and finishing the season. Can anyone say retirement?

And this is cheating. He is cheating by saying he can still play because he wants to play. Doesn't Alex know in that moment he lost all credibility? Midwesterners  hate entitlement. Someone who thinks they are above it all and can do pretty much what they want. We stick our Governors in jail who think that way. We are unforgiving and baseball is pretty sacred

So yeah. A Rod played in Chicago on Monday night and Chicago  let A-Rod  know what they thought about him. Not much.

Alex Rodriguez and Baseballs Continuing Black Eye

So we start to wonder. Who wasn't on e performance improving drugs? The latest saga of men taking steroids to beat the competition or stay up with the competition or just because they think it will give them the edge has degenerated into Rodriguez and the Yankees coming to Chicago tonight to play the Sox with Baseball telling Rodriguez he is suspended and him appealing the decision and allowing him to continue playing and Baseball not taking on the Union and the Commissioner not getting involved with an Executive Order. So what do we take away from all this?

The game has been tarnished. Alex Rodriguez has admitted to taking drugs before. The now defunct anti-aging  clinic where he supposedly got a fresh supply of steroids is at the center of the investigation that Baseball says is pretty solid. Rodriguez and his lawyers paint it as a way of the Yankees to dump his 97 million dollar contract. Add to that he he is forty and injured and the Yankees have been telling him to not come back until he is healthy. Rodriguez sees this as more evidence of nefarious intent on the Yankees behalf.

So who or what do we believe? It would seem he did something. It would seem he is trying now to protect his money and reputation (or whats left of it) as best he can. It would seem that he might be going down. But money buys a lot of things. Good lawyers. Public opinion. What Baseball has hoped would go away keeps popping up and tarnishing the National Pastime. It is a black eye for a sport where people leave their troubles at the door and enjoy a few hours of a game that brings back memories of being a kid and the pastoral good times of summer.

I am sure Rodriguez would kill for a few hours of that about now.
